Barcamp Bangalore 2.0 on December 2, 3
Its back again in Bangalore on the 2nd and 3rd of December. For the uninitiated Barcamp is an “unconference”. In simple english it is a gathering of technology enthusiasts who get together and share thoughts, ideas and emerging trends. The intent is to have an informal environment where the conference schedule is put together on the fly and presenters typically make impromptu sessions. Far from the formalism that one sees in formal conferences.
Bangalore now joins the list of cities that have had more than one barcamp.
The team organising Barcamp this time around seems to be doing great. They already have sponsors in the bag (boy it aint easy to get money these days).
This would be barcamp 3 for me after Barcamp Chennai and Barcamp Bangalore.
Lock you calendar in. And dont miss the fun. See you all there.
PM footprints launch
We at PMI Bangalore are launching an exciting new program PM Footprints. This is a fortnightly program for PM practitioners in Bangalore to network, share and exchange ideas and discuss threadbare contemporary project management issues with other practitioners across organizations and industries.
The program presentation will be for about an hour followed with interactions and knowledge sharing amongst fellow PM community. The program will provide great opportunity for both the people desirous of presenting their works / papers to share their learning and thoughts and also for the practitioners.
Leverage this great opportunity. You can contact me or call the PMI Bangalore Chapter Office, or for any further details.

Choosing a Blog host. Viva Wordpress!

After a great deal of deliberation, I have decided to move my primary blog Ponderpoint out to Wordpress. I had to move out of Jroller, the original home of my Blog, ever since it became a primarily Java developer community.
I evaluated Blogger, Typepad and Tripod. I finally chose Word Press. Here’s why?
- I was looking for a *free* hosting site. Wordpress was offering most of all that Typepad basic service was offering at $4.95. Besides the upgrade options at Typepad seemed too pricing if I wanted to exercise the option (you never know
). That left out Typepad. - I was looking for tools that were powerful yet flexible. Tripod tools for blogging are n’t that user friendly (IMHO) - rememebr my requirement was one of power configuration and usability. Not withstanding that I am a current Tripod customer for other services. Also popular blog addon services dont seem to mention Tripod Blog services. That left out Tripod.
- I was looking for Post Categories. Blogspot / Blogger dont offer that capability and I had gotten used to it from the Jroller days. Even the Picasa integration did not sway me, since “categories” were a must have. That left out Blogger. It is another matter that I still have my Photoblog is on Blogspot (maybe there are better out there!).
I got more than I bargained for at Wordpress….
- Posting to multiple categories.
- Smart preview mode.
- Pages (different from categories).
- Spam tools.
And I have more to discover. If you are looking to choose a Blog host for your new Blog, I strongly recommend Wordpress.
Wikipedia success faster than expected?

Wikipedia is taking off faster than it can handle….
I have been dabbling with Wikipedia and editing articles there since June 2004. Since then it seems to have come a long way in terms of awareness and usage amongst the Web surfer community.
How did I figure out?
The servers at Wikipedia are choking and unable to handle the traffic. It happened twice today for me in the span of 4 hours. Servers are either down or way too slow. I Investigated further to understand why….
Alexa’s website says that Wikipedia’s daily page views has tripled in the last year. To get a sense of comparison, Yahoo’s daily page views are 250 times more than that of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is 159 in rank in terms of the daily traffic on the Net. The following graph shows slashdot.org reach declining in the same period.
Guess, its time to upgrade servers and uncork some champagnes…. Way to go wikipedia!
