Choosing a Blog host. Viva WordPress!

Assassins trailer Wordpress

After a great deal of deliberation, I have decided to move my primary blog Ponderpoint out to WordPress. I had to move out of Jroller, the original home of my Blog, ever since it became a primarily Java developer community.

I evaluated Blogger Cast Away ipod , Typepad and Tripod. I finally chose Word Press. Here’s why?

  1. I was looking for a *free* hosting site. WordPress was offering most of all that Typepad basic service was offering at $4.95. Besides the upgrade options at Typepad seemed too pricing if I wanted to exercise the option (you never know ;-) ). That left out Typepad.
  2. I was looking for tools that were powerful yet flexible. Tripod tools for blogging are n’t that user friendly (IMHO) – rememebr my requirement was one of power configuration and usability. Not withstanding that I am a current Tripod customer for other services. Also popular blog addon services dont seem to mention Tripod Blog services. That left out Tripod.
  3. I was looking for Post Categories. Blogspot / Blogger dont offer that capability and I had gotten used to it from the Jroller days. Even the Picasa integration did not sway me, since “categories” were a must have. That left out Blogger. It is another matter that I still have my Photoblog is on Blogspot (maybe there are better out there!).

I got more than I bargained for at WordPress….

  1. Posting to multiple categories.
  2. Smart preview mode.
  3. Pages (different from categories).
  4. Spam tools.

Mr. 3000 the movie And I have more to discover. If you are looking to choose a Blog host for your new Blog, I strongly recommend WordPress.
